Jose de Paez
José de Páez (1721–1790) was a leading painter of New Spain in the eighteenth century and one of the most important religious artists of colonial Mexico. Working primarily in Mexico City, he produced altarpieces, Marian images, and devotional scenes marked by clarity, balanced composition, and luminous colour. Strongly influenced by Spanish Baroque models, especially Murillo, Páez helped transmit Catholic visual tradition to the Americas, shaping sacred imagery for churches and convents throughout Mexico.
